Layout
As the name suggests, a center console boat places its console in the very center of the ship. The majority of the ship’s controls are located here as well, and passengers are able to walk freely around the perimeter of the ship. The deck space is spacious and boaters are able to access spots not normally available on other ships.
A dual console has two consoles at the front of the ship. The starboard side typically has the control panel while the port side is a passenger seat. These consoles are protected by a wrap-around windshield and help keep the driver from being splashed by sea spray and foam. The other seats tend to follow this split, creating a row up the center of the ship for passengers to walk through.
Use
Because of their unique layouts, these styles of boats have become quite popular over the years with very different crowds. Due to the protective wrapping and extra seating included on a dual console boat, these ships are popular among loungers and families. They’re great for day trips to the beach spent hanging out with friends and family alike.
Center consoles are also somewhat popular among families but are more commonly associated with fishermen. The ability to access the water from various points on the ship makes it perfect for finding the perfect spot to cast from, or allowing large groups to fish all at once.
Size
As we’ve mentioned, dual console boats are quite popular among boaters who plan to host large groups. In order to support all that extra seating, these boats largely only come in one size: large. This is also quite helpful if you’re piloting the rough waters of the open sea, as it adds an extra layer of stability to the ship.
On the other hand, center console boats come in a range of sizes. They can traverse the deep blue, as well as the more shallow shores of lakes and rivers. Extra seating may be important for some buyers, but not others, encouraging manufacturers to produce these boats in a number of different lengths and widths.
As you can see, these boats have much less in common than you may have expected! If you’re located nearby in Annapolis, Maryland, and are looking to purchase one of these amazing ships, we hope you’ll visit us here at PYY Marine.
