How to Prep For Storing Your Boat
Unfortunately, storing a boat for winter isn’t as simple as placing it in your garage and covering it with a tarp till spring arrives. You’ll need to complete a number of maintenance tasks to prep your boat for its long period in storage, as well as a few unique tools to keep it in good condition. For a list of some of the most important tools you’ll need to purchase to care for your boat while it’s in storage, read our article below.
Boat Cover
To keep pests from making a home in your nice boat, you’ll want to be sure to invest in a well-fitted boat cover. A cover will also help protect your model from wind, rain, or snow if it’s being stored outside, as well as collecting dust and dirt that will eventually result in rust come springtime.
Drip Charger
To keep your battery from dying out over the long winter season, we recommend connecting it to a drip charger till spring arrives. However, before you hook your battery up to charge, be sure to first completely remove it from your boat’s engine. Otherwise, you may accidentally damage some of your boat’s sensitive electrical components.
Air Compressor
Cold winter temperatures often cause pressurized air to shrink, resulting in the tires on your boat’s trailer going completely flat. To avoid this, you’ll need to use a pressure gauge to check your boat trailer’s tires regularly. If you notice one of the tires beginning to go flat, go ahead and use your handy air pump to fill it back up to the recommended PSI levels. If you don’t have a compressor on hand, you may need to load up your trailer and travel to a nearby gas station to find an available air pump.
